In the grey light of late December –
the old year’s end is burnt with embers –
a glimmer of spring lifts the temper
with thoughts of dew sparkling
in the fragrant hazy blooming
of hay meadows on an April morning:
the yellow trumpet of the daffodil,
mauves and blues of clover and speedwell,
and the elusive scarlet pimpernel.
We are reminded of the day
when a colourful flowering miscellany
will elbow winter out of the way.

My response to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads Artistic Interpretations with Margaret: Alcohol Inks
Margaret is our host today and she tells us that once a month she shares poetry with local poets in the Blue Ridge Parkway area of North Carolina in a room surrounded with displayed art. Each month the venue displays new local talent and often the art work is for sale. She says that she fell in love with a display of alcohol inks, which she has shared with us in the hope that we will find inspiration in them for original poems.
Margaret asks us to interpret the images in any way we please, but she has included the each artist’s title and was given permission to photograph them.
My goodness this is exquisite! I especially love the “the yellow trumpet of the daffodil, mauves and blues of clover and speedwell, and the elusive scarlet pimpernel.” Wow! 😍😍

I love to think about summer these days when the grey and darkness is so heavy with winter.

I love this, flowers elbowing winter out of the way. It is still too early for me to start yearning for spring and flowers. But Along February I will read this wonderful poem with longing. I love the thoughts of a carpet of flowers.

I’m already on the lookout for early snowdrops, Toni. (Would you believe my Kindle tried to change snowdrops to showrooms!) The seasons are so out of kilter, anything could happen. 😀🌼🌷🌸

My tablet always tries to change things into odder things. It once changed Dorain Gray into stormy gray. I love winter so much. I want it to play out in its entirety but…go away on schedule!

I’m not quite at the point where I’m ready to yell “I’m done with you!” to winter (I have a few New Year’s activities I’m looking forward too). But some time mid-January I will start making a face at everything, listening hard for bird song, squinting at buds, and dreaming too.

This pretty flower garden brings memories in abundance. It gave solace to my disheartened and down talked man.

Really beautiful – and I am already READY FOR THAT ELBOW! I don’t think I’ve ever seen the word “miscellany” used in a poem before. I love it here!
