same old pond
behind yellow roses
the splash of a frog

My response to Carpe Diem #1780 The Old Pond by Basho
Today we have a ‘Revise That Haiku’ challenge, in which we have been given one of the best-known haiku by Matsuo Basho, as well as the story behind it, and the goal is to ‘revise’ it:
furu ike ya / kawazu tobi komu / mizu no oto
old pond
a frog jumps into
the sound of water
Matsuo Basho
In the background notes, it was explained that Basho was living in a hermitage in Edo where there was a pond with yellow roses growing around it. One quiet early spring day he heard a frog jump into the pond – a moment when he understood the idea of tranquillity.
I like how you incorporated the background of the original haiku into yours.
