the poise of a cat
as it springs onto my lap
vibrating purrs

My response to Carpe Diem #1816: kittens
This Friday will be the last day of February and Carpe Diem’s month of love, in which we’ve written about several kinds of Love; today our challenge is to create a haiku, tanka or other Japanese poetry form about animal love, especially kittens.
Cute 🙂

Wonderful!
The cats I have in my life at this point aren’t very purr-y, at least not with me. I think they tend to like my son a bit better.

Thank you, Cara! After years of being the only one the cats responded to, they have recently taken to vying for my husband’s lap – but they still sleep on my hip or by my feet.

I find my cat’s purrs particularly relaxing when I have writer’s block and getting frustrated. However he does also have a habit of walking over my laptop when I am in the middle of writing. Can’t count how many times I have double checked a story and found random letters, numbers and symbols and the end of a paragraph.

Mojo is usually somewhere nearby when I’m writing, but she doesn’t see herself as a co-writer, more a muse.
