Unblurring the View

Days blur into each other.
The view from the window seems
to stay the same:

green leaves pattern blue sky,
occasionally a cloud drifts
or a helicopter murmurs by,
a tractor trundles down a lane,
sometime later it returns again.

A knock at the door relieves
the mundane Monday repetition,
a gloved delivery with distance maintained.

Back to the window and the welcome interruption
of the magpie, sporting yin and yang wings.
I’m thankful for the unblurring of everyday things.

My response to Poets and Storytellers United Weekly Scribblings #15: Poets and Storytellers Ink COVID-19 Quarantine Histories

Magaly greets us at the Week Scribblings, where she reminds us that, around the world, different individuals and some groups have been collecting COVID-19 quarantine inspired stories, telling their tales through photographs, song and ink. For today’s prompt, she invites us to write new prose or poetry which describes an instant, or a day, or a week, or a month during the current pandemic, fiction or nonfiction.

  1. This is gorgeously rendered, Kim! 💝 I resonate with; “the mundane Monday repetition, a gloved delivery with distance maintained.” 🙂

  2. Those little pops of unblurred beauty break through the numbness in such a gentle way. Sometimes it’s hard not to get a little teary eyed at how sweet in their everyday-ness they are and how they are untouched by the strangeness.

  3. Wonderful writing … it’s all in the details. … in this beautifully drawn piece. And, once again, your close is really lovely … very special.
