Impudent Moon

After sunset,
when golden light
fades to dusk,
the full moon,
a voyeuristic eye,
stands look-out
in the darkening sky,
for lovers on an evening walk.
The moon knows
there will be little talk.

It’s Day 5 of NaPoWriMo and our (optional) prompt begins with reading Charles Simic’s poem ‘The Melon’, which illuminates the juxtaposition between grief and joy, sorrow and reprieve. For today’s challenge, we are writing poems in which laughter comes at what might otherwise seem an inappropriate moment – or that invite the reader to think of it as inappropriate.
