Assignation with Apples

Nature’s fruits and their aromas
are laden with sweet memories:
a windfall of sparkling baubles
or a bird café of dulcet squabbles
over worms in russet orbs that end
as feasts for our feathered friends.

Each bite of your acidic sweetness
arouses a harvest of ripe blushes
in an orchard under cover of night.
‘We are sweet temptation in moonlight,’
your apple breath whispers again,
and so we linger in soft autumn rain.

On the penultimate day of NaPoWriMo, the optional prompt starts with a poem by Alberto Rios, entitled ‘Perfect for Any Occasion’, our inspiration to write our own two-part poems that focus on food or types of meal. At some point in the poem, we should describe the food or meal as if it were a specific kind of person and give the food/meal at least one line of spoken dialogue.

Also linked up to Susan’s feast prompt at What’s Going On? on 27th November 2024 and Open Link Night at the dVerse Poets Pub on 25th September 2025.
