This is a quiet village in a flat landscape,
where boat sails criss-cross fields
past old churches and windmills.
There are ancient woods and trees:
rowan, oak and beech,
walks along a winding lane or windy beach.
Just down the road horses graze and on the river
ducks and swans return each year:
I’m not the only one who loves it here.

A poem in response to Sherry’s prompt about walking in Earth shoes over at What’s Going On?. She wants to know how life is for us, right now, in the places where we live and what’s going on in our neighbourhoods, towns or cities? She asks how we are feeling about the state of the world and, when we are heartsick, where do we go for solace?

I can see, from your words and in your photos, why you love it there. It sounds so tranquil, the horses in the field, trees and water. Just lovely. Thanks for taking us there, Kim!

“. . . where boat sails criss-cross fields . . .” What a sight! All in all, the place invites me to visit among the trees and the horses, and the planes of sight. Beautiful!

Thank you, Susan. From the road you can’t see the water and it looks as if the boats are sailing over grass.

Kim,
It seems that you live in an area where life can trundle on, mostly undisturbed by the troubles found in larger cities and in unstable zones around the world.
I too am lucky enough to live on the cusp of the Peak District National Park…scenery surrounds and inspires…
There’s time to see nature’s gifts….

I would love to visit the Peak District some time. No mountains or even hills around here!

Your description of your environment is enticing. It must be the enchanting to see sails moving through the fields. Is the place you write of ‘the Norfolk Broads’?
