a breath of sea air,
the wind in my hair,
watching a seabird drift off course,
then finding its way back home;
the rich purple hues
of heather, the blues
of sea holly and cornflower,
the electric-blue feather of a jay;
the loud rumbling purr
of my cats, their soft fur,
the way they trust me not to move
when they curl up on my lap;
cold winter nights, warm
and safe in our home,
together with the one I love,
in the quietude of togetherness.
Kim M. Russell, 15th November 2023

It seems as if Wednesday has come around very quickly, and with it What’s Going On?. This week, Mary is our host, and she would like us to think about things that are good, positive and beautiful; things and people we love.
She has shared a song called ‘I Love’ by Tom T. Hall, who was an American country music singer-songwriter, as well as some of the lyrics. Mary says that we should feel free to write in the style of Tom T. Hall if you wish, or in our own style.
We went for a walk by the sea today.
Oh, this is a beautiful poem, Kim. I love the words, the rhythm. I love the colors, the scents, the feelings. So much to love!

So very beautiful, Kim……so many beautiful things to love. A wonderful photo of your beach, too. I love all the colours, and the peacefulness. Lovely.

I’d love a walk by the sea. From there to the safety of a warm home on a winter night. Lovingly done!

With your eye for natural beauty I imagine this list could be endless, but I love the way you’ve made it a journey from the beach to home and hearth. 💟

Thank you Dora. That is exactly what the last thirty one years have been – a journey from the beach to home and hearth.

Thank you, Eileen. The last few days have been spent indoors cuddled up in my fleece with a cat in my lap, watching heavy downpours.

Your beautiful poem caused me to reminisce about my own walks by the sea. Good, good times indeed. The juxtaposition of cold and warm is perfect. Lovely work, Kim.
