Touchstone

You are my touchstone:
you heal me;
you alone
complement me,
make me whole.

You lighten the minor
chord of winter,
ground me
in the headiness
of summer.

By day my sun,
by night, you’re stars,
silver rivets holding
the sky together —
fierce gentleness.

Monday is Quadrille day at the dVerse Poets Pub, where De is our host – she says ‘Don’t touch that dial! (Stay and Write a Poem)’, and we’re writing that pocket-sized form of our own creation: a poem of just 44 words (not counting the title), including one word we provide.

Today, De would like us to tangle with the word touch. She has given us examples from John Keats, E.E. Cummings and Tennessee Williams, as well as music for inspiration.

  1. A fun read, makes one wish for sure to be in those folks shoes. I was thinking of making the prompt word, touch into a Hip Hop poem, mine this time needed rhyming words and more repetition. Not suited perhaps for only 44 words.

    1. Thank you, Jane, He’s still kn pain, but not as bad as it was. He’s on anticoagulants and pain killers. He’s up and about, and even went for a walk this afternoon. He still has clots in his calf and his lung, but they are gradually dispersing, We’re waiting for an appointment with a specialist.

  2. Such a tender and passionate song of love with “you’re stars,
    silver rivets holding
the sky together” — an encapsulation, the sum (or summit) of all that came before. Hope your husband’s recovery is going strong, Kim. 🙏🏾💞
