I’ve been hunting for treasure
in the junk shop of life,
where siskins drip at leisure
honeyed liquid notes,
and the morning daisy rises fresher
than the golden dandelion.
I’ve been searching at my leisure
where birds and insects soar and dive,
and all around me find Nature’s treasure.

Grace is our host for Meeting the Bar at the dVerse Poets Pub today, where we has introduced a new and fun poetic form: the Magic 9, which she says almost seems to have invented itself. It comes from the magic word abracadabra (without the ‘r’s) and has a rhyme scheme which magically appeared to a poet, who incorporated the scheme into a nine-line poem.
The Magic 9 is a poem in 9 lines, in which the meter is at the discretion of the poet, with the rhyme scheme a b a c a d a b a, with c and d as the two unrhymed lines. Grace has given one of her one poem, ‘Lilacs’ as an example.
Our challenge is to write a Magic 9 poem.
a magical rhythm to the poem too Kim – your junk shop of life is full of beauty

Love how you disclose nature’s wealth of treasure before our very eyes, Kim, uncovering riches of sight and sound that brings a calm to the soul. Masterly use of the form too.

“where birds and insects soar and dive,” beautiful imagery. I enjoy watching both, birds more than insects though.

Thank you, Melissa. I’m more partial to birds to, but I do love to watch dragonflies and butterflies.
