They bloomed vividly
in sunlight,
until a wind shook up
clusters of roses,
snatched them
from the fragile bush
and dashed them
on the grass.
This scattering of petals
concealed unwritten words,
romance in corollas;
despite the thorns and storms,
spilled poetry and perfume.
Kim M, Russell, 22nd September 2025

This Monday at the dVerse Poets Pub, Lill is hosting the Quadrille with ‘petals’.
The wind is such a cruel devastater of the fragile roses… love the way they still create such a wonderful scene in the end…

Beautiful and light, there is something about scatter petals on the ground that does feel like nature writing poetry. Here it is the Jacaranda petals, their lavender petals on paths after a summer storm.

Thank you, Dianne. I have often wondered about the Jacaranda after reading books by Australian writers.
