Life Coach

I struggle to rearrange
the furniture of my own life,
emotions are too heavy to lift.

Even the dust bunnies hiding
behind the sofa are laughing at me.

I give throwaway advice,
take none in return,
misunderstand the art of feng shui,
the importance of decluttering.

My thoughts are so jumbled
I can’t fit them into boxes,
and they spill across the floor,
tripping me and ganging up,
forcing me into corners.

I haven’t been out in ages,
do everything on-line.

The only place I feel free
is on the page,
organising words into poetry.

The optional prompt for Day 3 of NaPoWriMo is based on a poem by Prabodh Parikh, ‘Treasure Hunt’, an original and different view of what being a poet is like.  Our challenge is to write poems in which professions or vocations are described differently to what we typically expect.
