Inner voice, you often journey
into the surreal, you little noodle,
slick with sauce and studded with onions.
But then you shut me up with your
miso soup and sensible salads
of harmony and simplicity.
You mean sweet, crunchy,
herbaceous alchemy!
Let’s work together, create a symphony
of flavours, food for thought and possibility.
Kim M. Russell, 22nd April 2026

On Day 22 of NaPoWriMo the optional prompt was inspired by Jaswinder Bolina’s poem ‘Mood Ring’, which imagines the speaker as both himself and an interior being.
Our challenge is to write poems in which the speakers are in dialogue with themselves. My internal dialogue is between me, diabetes and servers diverticulitis, about a comfortable balance of diet and appetite.
“miso soup and sensible salads
of harmony and simplicity.” The best!

we always must, find that, balance between our own rational, and our, irrational (wilder side), otherwise, we will be in complete chaos and if we can’t even steady ourselves, we won’t have enough of what we need, to cope with the everchanging external environment that we live, in, so balancing is a must, and, it’s okay, to allow our irrational side take us over from time to time, after all, we can’t always keep it together, all the time, it’s okay, if we let our minds, loose every now and, then.
