Morning light streamed
through roughly-woven curtain,
glided across walls
and gilded the bed,
picking out ochre stitches
in the knitted blanket
and the lime green pattern
of the cotton pillowcases.
A room of fabrics
breathing in stitches,
stirred by the chilly breath
of a breeze, a subtle alarm –
a reminder to take advantage
of the quietude,
embrace the shadows
lingering in corners
before the intrusion
of the outside world.

Punam is our host for this Tuesday’s Poetics at the dVerse Poets Pub, where we are writing poems inspired by artworks from some of the exhibitions across many cities of India. Punam says that she came across some very interesting art pieces while reading an article about it.
Our challenge is to draw inspiration from a selection of images and write poems inspired by any one of them. I chose ‘A Room that Breathed in Stitches’ by Sabiha Dohadwala.

This is gorgeous, Kim! I love the word picture you painted, especially,
“glided across walls
and gilded the bed”.

Beautifully done….from the morning sunlight described as gilding the walls to those last three beautiful stanzas. Just a wonderful write!

The woven and stitched interior is a gentle guardian of quietude, soft yet resilent.

Kim – beautiful tactile piece of imagery, taking a very mundane moment – waking up, turning it into a sensory exploration of texture and light 💞
