Cushion

There is much to be said for the comfort of a cushion:
the familiar pressure in the small of your back;
an extra hug from your favourite chair;
a lap on which to rest your feet;
a safe place for a book you’ve just finished reading.
My favourite cushion has the face of a cat
with flowers on her head, a gift from my daughter,
an ordinary gift that every day reminds of her.

I haven’t visited the lovely poets over at What’s Going On? for a while, so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw this Wednesday’s prompt from Sherry which celebrated ordinary things.

Sherry has given examples of poems about ordinary things by Natalie Goldberg, who she says ‘is a master at writing about the ordinary, in a way that allows us to see the hidden depths beneath the seemingly simple words’, and Mary Oliver.

Our challenge is to look around us, select some small ordinary thing we rarely give much thought to and include it somehow in our poems, and celebrate the ordinary, the small treasures, pleasures and comforts that surround us.

    Yes! And you give it life! Wonderful. The cushions on my chair also bring to mind a favorite person. I love the photo, too. Bravo!
