Song of the Earth

After millennia I sing
even louder,
despite salty tears brimming
with pollution.

I seek relief from constant digging
at my flesh and bones.

My axis is creaking,
surface quaking,
I’m sleepless and heart-sore.

My blood still flows with poetry,
and will for ever more.

This Monday at the dVerse Poets Pub we are writing quadrilles with De. Yes, those poems of just 44 words, including one word our host provides, and this week De wants us to make your poems sing.

She says we can sing for our supper, sing in the shower or sing our hearts out; “zing us with a story about a jazz singer…or a humble busker on the corner of a busy city street. Sing like a canary. Sing us to sleep or sing it loud and sing it proud.”

De has given us some examples by well-known poets, such as Walt Whitman and Maya Angelou, as well as musical inspiration.

I’ve taken an old poem and turned it into a quadrille.
