Travelling Light

My response to Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie Photo Challenge #113

Sharp in the sunlight,

Melted snow

Of lingering winter

Revealed new growth.

In the drifting bark

Shifting sounds marked

The changing of the season:

The clamour of skeins of geese

And rooks emitting their phlegmy belches

As they built a shanty town

In the branches overhead.

Releasing wings as she set sail,

She blamed it on the stars,

That false constellation

Of cafes and bars

That hypnotises

When you’re away from home,

Living from a suitcase,

Carrying everything you own,

Escaping the rat race

For a few days grace.
