The North Pole
Has turned its back on the sun
And Earth continues on its orbit
Into polar night,
As you have done;
Days begin to lengthen,
Begging to be filled
With someone.
I continue in my daily run,
Go to work
And then come home
In darkness,
Hopeful that from now on
Lonely nights will shorten.
On the other side of the world,
It’s the longest day:
The South Pole faces the midnight sun,
As I have done,
No longer feeling so alone.
