My response to Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie Tale Weaver #82: out my kitchen window
Outside my kitchen window, a jungle
Steams rampant after morning rain.
Creeping snake-like tendrils strangle
Branches seeping with Bougainvillea stain
And laden with elephant epiphytes.
Wildlife sips from overflowing orchids
Among leaves the colour of essonite
And bubbling tanks of bromeliads.
Vanilla vapours of aromatic pollen
Cling to humming birds and bees
That buzz among blazing heliconias and fall in
Pitcher plants lurking below the trees.
Tigers meld with leaves and shadows,
Pad softly on the jungle floor;
They skulk outside my kitchen window,
Where they often growl and roar.

Kim, I love this too! My jungle hosts hummingbirds, my passion, as they nectar on my salvias, my Clematis Glaucophylla, mulberry jam, Wendy’s wish, and I breathe deeply filled with joy.

My jungle is sadly only in my imagination – in real life it’s overgrown with weeds. I love the sound of your hummingbirds, salvia and clematis.

Lovely! Your imagination and your world outside your kitchen window are both lush, rich, and colourful. And, that you have a Teekva! Teekva is Russian for pumpkin, and my parent’s Teekva looked just like your jungle cat.

Thank you for your kind comments. My cat’s name is Luna (full name Mountains of the Moon) and in the dark her white fur shimmers just like the moon. I also have a tiger-striped kitten called Mojo!

My childhood cat naming was fairly basic: Purr, Ginger, Little White Kitty (who was deaf so she didn’t know her name anyway)
Luna’s fur sounds amazing.

I love nothing better than greeting early morning when I first step outside to see my garden and feed my birds. When the red fountain sends a stream of water from the hummingbird spitter, I wait for the first siting of my Ruby-throat hummingbird to hover and visit the patio blooms.

Hi Kat and Kim! I am very passionate about hummingbirds, always. I am not sure what you mean about a collaboration…I am just getting started on my Humming Love, but don’t know what I am doing for sure. I would welcome any tips…

I think Kat means we should write a poem together.
