naïve and pretty
young girl in a floral dress
shrinks from your caress
bright squares of sunlight
making patterns on the floor
but no open door
a caged bird of prey
falsely yours until she flies
into a clear sky
held by silver chains
the trappings of wealth and fame
it’s only a game
a room with no view
both arms and legs akimbo
caught in the window
she wants to break free
from her bonds of chains and rings
to unfurl her clipped wings
she hears a sad song
in the radio’s static
locked in the attic
falsely yours

My response to Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie Writing Prompt #179 “Collage 30”
“My dear,
Find what you love and let it kill you.
Let it drain you of your all. Let it cling onto your back and weigh you down into eventual nothingness.
Let it kill you and let it devour your remains.
For all things will kill you, both slowly and fastly, but it’s much better to be killed by a lover.
~ Falsely yours”

This is quite terrifying– well done in that sense! Yikes, but really scary. Take care, k.

Should be more than two comments. ‘This is excellent! I’ll be thinking of this all day. And probably into the night. Haunting, and beautiful.

I can’t seem to escape the dark side when I’m writing.

Yeah, sometimes it’s like that. Or what you think isn’t dark others think so. LOL! But I think it is a product of maturity…realism….looking at the world without rose tinted glasses. Or something like that. I posted a haibun that will get me a lot of gruff. LOL! It might look dark, but in another context, it is not. Cheers!

The quote, picture and your words come together to create a stark pastiche of the darker edges of love and obsession.

I agree with Kerry… a dark and haunting picture…. and I do love dark poetry.
