With the salty breath of North Sea breeze
And gritty sand in mouth and hair,
I push my bike down to the sea,
The dog in the basket without a care.
Dolorous seagulls wheel and soar,
Squawk and mew in harmony
Above the rollers’ tenor roar
In a gusty, wistful symphony.
Percussive pedals clank and jingle,
Stones crunch and shift under my feet;
We resume our ride over the shingle,
The dog in the basket, me on the seat.

Poem and artwork fit together delightfully!

Thanks Xenia! Dee Nickerson is an East Anglian artist whose work I admire. My husband bought me one of her paintings as a Christmas present one year. He drove all the way to Soouthwold in Suffolk to pick it up!
