traces of first frost
icy glints on branch and leaf
still life on windows
poetry on the footpath
songless birds saying farewell

My response to Carpe Diem Universal Jane #6 first frost
This Wednesday’s special feature in honour of Jane Reichhold is also the regular prompt for today’s Tanka Splendour: ‘first frost’ and Chèvrefeuille has shared three tanka written by Jane to inspire us, as well as one of his own:
white frost
tundra swans in the meadow
down from the north
the sharp city boy she loved
when her world was young
sudden storm
the silence of wind chimes
tangled in jasmine
gossips speak our names
tying us together
high-tide beach
blue into the clear sky
the openness
for all things to become
the rush of another wave

after the hot summer
finally the beauty of Mother Earth
her crescendo
colorful leaves covered
with the first frost

What a beautiful tanka Kim, I love your ‘poetry on the footpath’ especially :o)

Thank you, Xenai! I love frosty weather. At the moment it’s just grey and drizzly, not even any mist, another of my favourite types of weather. How’s the weather treating you and the whippets?

The wind is still icy but not as strong as it has been so we are back on the beach wearing our woollies :o) There is plenty of snow on the higher ground so this will be out of bounds for a while as it becomes too cold there for the whippets. Hope the weather will brighten up a bit for you or at least have the decency to give you your beloved mist :o)
