a raggedy crow
gargoyle hunched on a bare branch
shreds clouds with its caw
watches with a shiny eye
threads tangle in autumn sky

My response to Carpe Diem Tanka Splendor #23 crows
For today’s prompt Chèvrefeuille has brought us ‘crows’ and the famous crow haiku by Matsuo Basho:
on a bare branch
a crow lands
autumn dusk
© Basho (Tr. Jane Reichhold)
As this month is all about Tanka Writing Techniques and tanka and tan renga are similar, he has challenged us to create a Tanka inspired by Basho’s haiku or make the tan renga complete by adding two lines.
autumn departs
between bare branches
crows nest abandoned
after the cold dark winter
it will be inhabited again

shreds clouds with its caw…that’s a great image.

A very inspired tanka ! The crow becomes here the symbol of the solitude.

Crows have such a poetic reputation. They are actually quite intelligent and make good pets.
