symphony of flames
flickering in the darkness
drips of molten wax
leave bright splashes of colour
and the fragrance of Christmas

My response to Carpe Diem Seven Days Before Christmas 2016 #5 candles
Chèvrefeuille has chosen candles as our prompt today; he says that they are the symbol for light and at this time of year the candle stands for the return of the light to the world, the promise and hope for a better future that is still the idea and the thought behind Christmas. He says he loves candles, that they make the room special, full of love and romance, and he has shared two of his own haiku, the first having been inspired by a well-known haiku by Buson, as well as a tanka:
lighting one candle
with another candle –
Christmas Eve
reflections
the light of the candle
on her face
house altar
photo’s of loved ones
I light a candle
in front of my brother’s photo –
the scent of Old Spice
