each
ripple
is a piece
of jigsaw
shapes that
sea
and saw
to infinity
and beyond
pieced together
in a pond
swimming pool
lake
or river
warm
as blood
or cold
as a shiver
interlocking
seahorse rocking
seashell washing
beach-crashing
a wavy motion
casting away
the last piece
of the ocean

Untitled (Warm Water) by Felix Gonzalez-Torres, 1988 – Fair Use Principles
My response to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads A Skyflower Friday: Untitled
Today, Kerry is standing in for Shay with a Fireblossom Friday flavoured challenge, in which we are taking our inspiration from Cuban-born American sculptor, photographer, and conceptual artist, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, known for work in a variety of media that addresses issues of identity, desire, originality, loss, the metaphor of journey, and the private versus the public domain. Like many artists of the 1980s, Gonzalez-Torres used the postmodern strategy of appropriating ready-made motifs and objects to create his art, thereby challenging the idea of the unique art object that was so much a hallmark of Modernism. (source)
For this challenge, Kerry has asked us to visit his page on WikiArt.org and view the selection of sculptures on display there. All pieces are “Untitled” with a description in brackets. We are writing new poems, with the same method of title. The content and style of the poem is open, but we should take our cue from “issues of identity, desire, originality, loss, the metaphor of journey”
The Christmas theme is banned. (Bah, Humbug!).
I actually saw the patterns of those waves in the words…love the short line lengths and what it did to the effect of the poem

I do think you have achieved the sense of fluid motion and jigsaw of words fitting together. It makes me want to take the plunge.

Thank you, Kerry! I was also trying to convey the mystery of the water and the sea – a kind of puzzle.

The way you constructed the lines so you got the visual feel of ebb and flow on top of the terrific imagery you used was wonderful.

I loved the breaks a lot; small lines give it a crashing beat, much like the waves at the beach. That stood out for me.
Also, the imagery is pitch perfect. A wonderful write indeed. 🙂
