I stride along a frostbound road,
eager to watch the dawn unfold
these creased and crumpled fields;
hasten due east, towards the tight
crack of the horizon squeezing out
a gorgeous blood red sun,
a genesis – a birth
at the very edge of earth.

My response to dVerse Poets Pub Quadrille – Dawn
Björn is our host for this week’s Quadrille. He says, ‘one morning in December we were bicycling to work when dawn broke with the most amazing gold. Dusk settles early, but it’s wonderful to meet the daylight on your way to work, but day begins and nothing gold can stay’. He has shared with us not only a beautiful photograph of a Swedish dawn but also a poem by Robert Frost.
‘For the Quadrille, we tend to favour words that can be used as both nouns and verbs. Or maybe we would like to make it dawnlike. Dawn is also a great word that can be used as a metaphor for change. Change is something happening, and we might anticipate, or we might fear it. But one thing is clear changes come and changes go, just like one day follows another.’
I really love the eagerness in this… to walk to meet the dawn is an image I needed to hear.

Kim, beautiful imagery. My like button isn’t working and I am not a techie, so I have being unable to press like for the last couple of weeks. But Kim, wanted you to know how I have enjoyed your latest poems including today’s. Living here in agricultural Ontario, I loved the line crumpled fields. Perfect image.

Thanks Jane! I’ve just arrived at my daughter’s, been greeted warmly and lickily by her Jack Russells and she’s made me a frothy mocha, which I’m just about to drink. 😊

I love the idea of it feeling as if you’re waking the edge of the earth, witnessing the birth…..it eludes to many things. It’s hopeful!

Those fields heading east. I’m seeing ploughed winter fields, shadows cast by the slanting light.
