I stare into the slightly tipped
silver dish of the moon
and sup dreams with a runcible spoon,
swallowing rocks and moon dust –
no cheese –
I don’t want nightmares.

My response to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads And the Moon ~ Micro Poetry
Today Kerry is putting the ‘mini’ back into the Sunday Mini-Challenge as we return to the option of form poetry. The object of this challenge is to write a poem in no more than 10 lines (but we may write in fewer than 10 lines all the way down to a single American sentence). We may choose our own form or write in free verse, if preferred.
eat dreams with a runcible spoon.. like the Edward Lear reference here…and the nursery rhyme title..

I never really liked ‘Hey Diddle Diddle’, but I loved (still do) ‘The Owl and the Pussy Cat’. As soon as I saw the prompt, I thought of that silver dish 😉

BEAUTIFUL!❤️ Somehow the reference to rocks and moon-dust enchants me.. it feels like one dealing with joys and sorrows of life with the moon as its witness.. sigh…❤️

The moon is an enduring emblem of poetry. I love the allusions in this poem, such a fun response to the prompt.

Is that why I have nightmares… the moon revenge my cheese eating… it could be.

This is crazy good, girl. I especially like the first three lines. “Runcible” … I’m all over nonsense words; you know this. But it also makes me see “Run Cybill (Shepherd)” … which makes me think of the show Moonlighting… which I was completely addicted to, once upon a time.

Ooh, Moonlighting – I was addicted too! I love your word association!

That kind of cheese can break a dreamer’s teeth.
Really love this, Kim. 🙂
