The attar of a rose
follows throughout the day,
from its glass prison vase
to the promise of a summer’s day,
with touch of a satin cloak
in the chill of spring, scented smoke
curls into twilight
before its petals close for the night.

My response to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads Bits Of Imagination ~ Perfume
Today Susie hopes to inspire our writing with the scent of perfume.
She says that even reading the word perfume can take our thoughts to a favourite scent, be it from a bottle or the scented air of nature. Of course, there are also scents that evoke not so pleasant memories, either way perfume has power.
Today’s challenge is simple: Write about perfume. Please share an original poem based on the challenge and please take time to read the perfume inspired poetry of your fellow poets.
I love the play on words, and also the veracity of your image – the scent of a rose is something that attaches itself to both skin and memory.

saw a marvellous program on the making of attar of roses – the idea of a ‘glass prison vase’ makes a potent ending for a damask rose

I love cutflowers and often have them around, yet my feelings are very ambiguous–on one hand they bring their life and perfume into our indoor spaces so we can truly appreciate them over time, on the other, it seems such a sacrifice of their brief lives–the ‘prison vase’ indeed.

I do like cut flowers but I prefer flowers to be in the garden, where they are free and last so much longer. Thanks for reading and commenting 🙂

A rose can still get the dignity of its strength even when it is already cut and ‘imprisoned’ in a vase! Very true Kim!
