Wired for Sound

in the middle of a field
eyes squeezed tightly shut
mouth open wide
fingers in ears
sound
is
suspended
now and then
a motorbike roars and whines
cars hum in the distance
senses open
to patch of blue
taste of earth
and thud of heart

Wired for Sound

My response to dVerse Poets Pub Monday Quadrille – Sound Off!

This Monday, Victoria has chosen ‘sound’ as the word for the Quadrille. She says it can be used as a noun, verb, adjective or adverb.

  1. I love how your eyes and ears are closed to open up the senses to

    ‘patch of blue
    taste of earth
    and thud of heart’

Hope you had a lovely time at the choir and wishing you a wonderful new week! :o) xxx

  2. This one gave me goosebumps! Especially resonate with; “cars hum in the distance senses open to patch of blue taste of earth and thud of heart.” Beautifully penned, Kim ❤️

    1. Thank you! The field is opposite our house and is common land for the whole village so I can go over and enjoy it any time I want! I’m so lucky!

  3. It’s nice to be out in nature, to hear the sounds of civilization from afar. To hear your own heartbeat above the rest. I hear the far off sounds sometimes at night, when i hear small airplanes flying in the distance or an 18 wheeler gearing down

    1. Those of us who don’t live in cities are lucky as we experience this most days. When we spent a couple of day sin London recently, I had a noise overload and couldn’t cope.

    1. I love it when there is just nothing going on in the house: no radio, no TV, nobody talking, and you can hear birds, the tick of a clock, your own heart and breathing.
