Leaves murmur
in the woody copse.
Twilight is more alive
than sombre day
and we fly
outside time.
Together we haunt
waxing shadows;
heart-stirring hoots
bind us to sorrow;
unearthly hiss and sigh,
blinking discs of eyes
and graceful drifting
over tangled grass –
a fleeting meeting
and then they’ve passed.

My response to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads Artistic Interpretations with Margaret
Today Margaret has brought us some gorgeous art work from NC County Fair, Asheville. She says that these works of art are diverse in medium and age range, and created by ‘amateurs’. The challenge is to write a poem in any style matched to one or more images.
there is something so majestic and magical about owls – you’ve done them prous with this.

Wonderful poem! I love that you used the owls. I too love them and often sit out at night (late) listening to them whithering from the woods or floating silently past looking for food. I love the life you have given the owls. I esp. like “Twilight is more alive than sombre day and we fly outside time.” Gorgeous and describes their flight perfectly.

The owls in our garden are quiet at the moment and I only catch a glimpse now and again – but I know they are there!

When you have seen an owl in a copse I know that you have captured the essence of that being… love what you did here.

There really is something magical about these birds – I’ve only seen one in the wild and I gasped – and stood transfixed – their gaze is something indescribable. Enjoyed the “first person” narrative.
