All along the railway, the landscape’s studded
with beechwoods, earthworks and tracks,
serenaded by rocking clickety-clacks,
and accompanied by clouds that scudded
in from the east on a bitter weeping wind.
Through dusty, grease-smeared glass,
sidings sport orchards as we pass,
sprouted from cores tossed from train windows:
a magical hoard of apples glows,
embers in the charcoal of twilight shadows.

That’s a great thought that all those apple trees came from tossed cores…!!!!

Your poem makes me see the view through another’s eyes, through those grease – smeared windows. I can almost feel the click of the railway car as it rolls over the tracks of life, watching all go by.

Lovely train journey. It reminds of my childhood and various trips we used to take – train journey always was one of the most interesting.

Beauty grows from things we discard. I’ll bet it looks gorgeous in the spring, when all the apple blossoms are in bloom.

sprouted from cores tossed from train windows:
a magical hoard of apples glows,
embers in the charcoal of twilight shadows.
Tenacity of greenery galore. Some insisted to live on just by accident to favor mankind!

The imagery in this is lovely, and – for me – quite impactful ~ travellers passing through, leaving behind (unbeknownst to them) apple trees (a living marker that they passed that way). Wonder full!
Beautiful words in this … ‘a magical hoard of apples glows,
embers in the charcoal of twilight shadows’ ~ sigh ~
