Forest shadows are deepening,
roses are in bloom and spring
is a forgotten dream.
Today is a slip of tan sand,
a sliver of salt marsh and the sea,
slow as wrinkling oil, bobs boats,
dappling the honey-hued harbour
with licks of salt to mark the tide
and fresh puddles on the quay-side.

My response to Poets United Midweek Motif ~ Summer
Sumana’s motif this midweek is summer and she has given us some quotations and poems for inspiration to write a summer poem.
With spring but a memory, you show us new beauty. Love it.

So beautifully described … and much appreciated by this landlubber, who grew up a mile from a gentle country stream. I did not see the ocean or a sandy beach until I was 19 years old!

Thank you, Bev. Living on a small island (as Bill Bryson called it) we are never really far from the coast.
