is painted in pointillist shadows,
light fades with the last echoes
of birdsong and clings to moon
and stars. Lingering day, when owls
skim, swoop, dodge in and out
of branches not yet embellished
with blossom or leaves
but pregnant with promise.
Kim M. Russell, 29th April 2018

My response to The Poetry School NaPoWriMo prompt for Day 29: Amnesty Day, also linked to Poets United Poetry Pantry
Ali says that today, the penultimate day of NaPoWriMo, is amnesty day. It’s a day to do any or all of the following things:
- Go back and try some prompts we missed or want another go at. We should post a reminder of the prompts with our poems.
- Repost any poems we feel didn’t get enough – or indeed any – feedback.
- Post poems we’ve written this month that didn’t come from a prompt, but we’d still like feedback on.
- Edit or redraft poems from previous prompts and post the new, improved versions for feedback.
I’m short of time so I reworked a haibun I wrote during NaPoWriMo. I decided to forget the haiku and turned the whole thing into an octet.
Beautifully described, as always.

What delightful observation, we are very lucky as poets to write what we see and feel and bring sense to words in other readers. Beautifully written.

I love thinking of this day as being pregnant with promise. Really expresses the reality of April & the way each day is promised something even better ahead.

The pointillist shadows makes me see those tiny leaves of spring… really I just have to look out of the window and it’s there.

Love the progression, Kim. How your poem starts us at the end, tells about us what created the whole, and then shows us what looks like… and what it can/will become. I can see the blooms bursting out of that promise. It’s a yummy sight.

A lingering day can end up with a lot of unexpected happenings. Very true Kim as time is at its disposal!

I love the way pointillist artists capture light. Have you seen Venice Twilight by Claude Monet?
