Tea this Afternoon

Fill the kettle,
click the switch.
take the mug
(with the words:
‘Some people make the world
more special just by being in it’),
and steep a lemon, ginger
and manuka honey teabag
in boiling water. Don’t sip
yet, just breathe its
aromatic hug.

My response to dVerse Poets Pub Quadrille: Steep

This week Mish is hosting the Quadrille with the word ‘steep’ and today would have been my dead father’s birthday. I’m celebrating with a cup of lemon, ginger and manuka honey tea and a poem about what happened this afternoon.

  1. Very sweet. Rich image and great pause, before the sip, forcing us to smell and enjoy. In Zen Archery, you hold the bow and don’t release quickly, you abide in the tension — like this poem — it is called “Kai”. You poem pleasantly reminded me.

  2. Like an Asian tea ceremony, this bundle of loveliness mellows me to the core. Your mug is all aces. That’s the way I feel about all the poets from the Pub.
