April started just today
and yet it seems so far away,
a distant joke other people play
when they are young and full of life.
I remember being drunk with love,
with music and the stars above,
the cosy walks in sun and rain;
I hope we’ll do it all again
now that April’s here.

My response to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads Poems in April Day 1: April Come She Will
Marian is our host for the first NaPoWriMo prompt of April and she has treated us with the beautiful Paul Simon song ‘April Come She Will’. I can’t believe he wrote it back in the sixties – it hasn’t aged at all.
Marian asks us to write a poem about love, the seasons changing, love affairs growing old, streams swelled with rain…
Spring is in the air and April is here to sway us all:)

This is lovely, Kim. You’ve achieved that simple rhythm and subtleness of the song that are so compelling there and here. Really good.

I like your inclusion of playing a joke, in your April 1st (or April Fool’s Day) poem.

I agree, that song sounds as fresh as it did the first time I heard it.

you have captured the renewal that April brings so well Kim – that last non-rhyming line promotes your point of beginning all again

What a wonderful April poem. I can imagine walking down that lovely road with the one you love, arms draped about each other. Yes. Let us all be drunk in love again.

to be drunk on the promise of Spring’s love is a promise of absolute wonder and delight ~ long may it live and breathe in our hearts ~ lovely poem Kim, a fine way to welcome the new season, a new month and perhaps the “madness” of trying to poem 30-for-30 😀

I don’t drink much alcohol and never get drunk so it;s the only option for me! I need something to keep me going after the halfway stage of NaPoWriMo.

I can so understand — I’m thinking I’m might not even make it to the half way mark without losing my mind – LOL! 😜
