Chestnuts by the Eaves

people in the world
too busy to stop and look
stuck in their own lives

hardly notice these blossoms
dripping from branches
they only see leaves

chestnuts by the eaves
welcome shade on a hot day
close enough to touch

My response to Carpe Diem #1674 Troiku Month (3) chestnuts by the eaves

The third haiku from which to create Troiku this month is by Matsuo Basho and it’s one of the fifty haiku he used in his haibun ‘The Small Road Into The Deep North’ (Oku-no-Hosomichi):

people in the world

hardly notice these blossoms

chestnuts by the eaves
