errant porpoises
trapped inside the harbour wall
the sun’s a beachball
call of the harbour
nets strung between the boatsheds
sparkling with sea salt
avalanche of fish
tumbling down the harbour wall
no more plastic bags
Kim M. Russell, 17th April 2020
My response to Imaginary Garden with Real Toads NaPoWriMo Day 17 Play it Again in April 2020: Transforming Fridays with Nature’s Wonders , also linked to earthweal’s Open Link Weekend and Poets and Storytellers United Writers’ Pantry.
On Friday, 17th April 2015, Hannah invited Toads to celebrate and recognize haiku, speaking in the tongue of nature about any facet of the wild-natural-world, either in the traditional style of haiku or a modern manifestation of haiku in English.
Hannah said we should feel free to be expansive in our choice of POV, to explore a different voice, to write a series of haiku and chain them together or craft a singular vision, as long as the haiku are new, written specifically for this challenge.
I’m merging this prompt with Kerry’s Skylover Wordlist, sourced from Dylan Thomas’s poetry collection Deaths and Entrances, from which the seventeenth word is harbour’.
This is such a poignant set of haikus, Kim. I especially love; “avalanche of fish/tumbling down the harbour wall/no more plastic bags.”💝💝

These are all wonderful, Kim. I most especially love the first one….the idea of the sun as a beach as a beachball for porpoises is absolutely delightful. Thanks for the smile this morning!

I love the sun as a beachball……..and fish instead of plastic bags. Hope that continues once humans come outside again. Smiles.

Finally the fish are clear of man’s damnation by his creation. This reminded me sooo much of our Harbor Ride when we were at Cape Town. Corralled porpoises and all.

I love them all, but the last one left me squealing! I so hope for the emerging plastic bags bans to have that effect. I’m smiling… thinking of fish. 🙂
