Nature’s fruits and their aromas are laden with sweet memories: a windfall of sparkling baubles or a bird café of dulcet squabbles over worms in russet orbs that end as feasts for our feathered friends. Each bite of your acidic sweetness arouses a harvest of ripe blushes in an orchard under cover of night. ‘We are sweet temptation in moonlight,’ your apple breath whispers again, and so we linger in soft autumn rain. On the penultimate day of NaPoWriMo, the optional prompt starts with a poem by Alberto Rios, entitled ‘Perfect for Any Occasion’, our inspiration to write our own two-part poems that focus on food or types of meal. At some point in the poem, we should describe the food or meal as if it were a specific kind of person and give the food/meal at least one line of spoken dialogue.
Also linked up to Susan’s feast prompt at What’s Going On? on 27th November 2024 and Open Link Night at the dVerse Poets Pub on 25th September 2025.
“We are sweet temptation in moonlight”…i love that..

Your poem makes me smell the sweetness of an apple orchard. And the idea of ‘apple breath’ makes me smile! Love all of the senses you played with in this poem.

I love this, and even though the apple season is not as good as last year… I still hope for that wonderful taste.

Always admire your way with a rhyme, Kim….particularly “baubles” and “squabbles”, and “aromas” and “memories”…JIM

Kim, you are making me hungry for apples! There are so many on the trees this year, but as you say, they have worms that the birds fight over. Need to buy some honey crisps.

Ah yes, an apple is a symbolic fruit. A temptation. Beautifully penned Kim. It reminded me of watching a crows’ breakfast of fallen mangoes under a tree. It was such a pleasure to watch them all feasting on them. 🥰

Such a delicious seasonal poem, Kim. I love this line most in the first stanza:
“a windfall of sparkling baubles”
and I love how the second stanza speaks of stolen romantic moments (or so it seems) 🙂🍎
