The Elusiveness of Shadows

Shadows are not concrete
yet they creep beneath your feet.

You can see but you can’t hear
them, and they always disappear.

In the summer, they often linger
like gunpowder from cannon-fire.

Though short-lived, shadows stroll
into infinity together with your soul.

It’s 10th April and we are one-third of the way through National/Global Poetry Writing Month! At Na/GloPoWriMo, today’s optional prompt is a to write poems based on ‘curious headlines, cartoons, and other journalistic tidbits featured at Yesterday’s Print, where old new stays amusing, curious, and sometimes downright confusing’. Hard to choose, I finally decided on this one.

  1. Good one, Kim! I especially liked this stanza
“n the summer, they often linger
    like gunpowder from cannon-fire.”

When I was little, and the sun was shining so my shadow was behind me, I used to keep turning around to see if it was still there! :) Ah, childhood memories.

I had great fun with this prompt…..took me quite a while but really enjoyed it. Will have to use it for an OLN over at dVerse.
