Stirring cream in your mocha with a long spoon,
you feel the grit of sugar where your wrist
rests on the cluttered table. Big clouds soon
push eastwards and turn to rainy mist.
The downpour comes and then it goes away.
Customers shake umbrellas and raincoats
in the draughty doorway of the sad café.
In the steam, a forgotten memory stutters
and starts to fall. You catch it in your spoon
and give the creamy clouds another stir.

On day fifteen we are halfway through Na/GloWriMo and at NaPoWriMo we are encouraged to take become inspired by postage stamps. I chose a stamp from Stamps Bot which reminded me of one of my old poems from April 2019, which I have reworked to reflect the image on the stamp.
Sorry about the weather, but I like the “creamy clouds” that came out of it.

I love all the gentle notions you’ve captured in your ekphrastic response, Kim. So gently evocative.

I love that you chose this postage stamp prompt and found a way to make it about coffee. I love that there are cafe mocha stamps. I also love the catching of a memory in your spoon and giving your coffee another stir.
