At moonrise, balled emotion
in my flocculent pocket
unravels, creating constellations
from stars on my fingertips.
In my flocculent pocket,
a loose knit of present and past;
from stars on my fingertips
a net across the sky is cast.
A loose knit of present and past
unravels, creating constellations.
A net across the sky is cast
at moon rise, balled emotion.

It’s Thursday at the dVerse Poets Pub, Merril is our host, and we are meeting the bar with poems written in a specified form; today’s form is the pantoum.
Merril reminds us of the origins and structure of the pantoum. For this challenge we may write rhymed or unrhymed lines; however, we must use the third line of the first stanza as the second line in the final quatrain AND end with the first line. We may change/add some words and punctuation in our repeating lines to make the lines fit or to alter the context. Merril has even given us a template for the form, and examples from Natalie Diaz and A.E. Starlings.
I didn’t know that today is Poem in a Pocket Day, and one of Merril’s optional themes is pockets. I searched my archives and found several poems that have pockets in them, so I decided to borrow some of my own lines to create a new pantoum. You can find the original poem here.
This feels like a spell being cast with fuzz being tossed into constellations… love the sense of magic you bring.

I’d actually forgotten it was poem in a pocket day, even though it was my prompt! But we are all sharing poems here anyway.
I like that you took lines from one of your poems to create something new, Kim. I love the idea of “stars on my fingertips” and the constellations.

Love “creating constellations
from stars on my fingertips.”
What wonderful imagery!, Kim. The poetic conceit of such “balled emotion” right in your pocket works beautifully.

Kim, I’m with Bjorn that this feels like a spell is being cast, with you being the spellcaster with stars in your pocket. Magically woven!

I like your idea of reworking lines from a previous poem. The images are lovely (those star-tipped fingers) and well worth giving another frame.

Thank you, Jane. A lot of my old poems were written to prompts and really drafts; I like to rewrite and recycle them.

I must confess Kim, I had to look to look up the word flocculent. Then I read this poem and then the original pocket poem. Am glad I read the two of them…..the pairing is beautiful. I think, side-by-side these are wonderful….unraveling, creating constellations. Beautiful.
