They’re whispers of promises
to stay and watch over you,
and never leave your side.
They may be in wrong places
or different times, not yours
but someone else’s.
There’s no need to be afraid
of an old promise made
by someone long dead.

Lillian is hosting the Monday Quadrille at the dVerse Poets Pub this week, and she’s on a promise. Yes, the word to include in our 44-word poems is ‘promise’. I won’t be here for Halloween, so I went a little spooky.
This is deliciously spooky and perfect for the season, Kim! 🩷🩷

That is a spooky response. Who knows right, if spirits can have that much influence over our lives. I guess we still remember those promises anyway. Good one Kim.

Kim, I see your poem and Lillian’s as connected. Maybe those are our guardian angels?

We should not be afraid, but yet we are… your ghosts are maybe not too scary if we treat them right.

Most ghosts aren’t scary, and some are comforting.

Ye gods…….and I was settling in for a little romantic read! Wonderfully done in the careful restraint, making it all the more efficient and deadly—–

haunting. Reminds me of a woman I know of, who lived with a fear that he would somehow find her again…

It can be interpreted as spooky or heartwarming. It all boils down to who made that promise! Great take on the prompt 🙂

This feels perfectly haunting for this time of year, and eerily comforting that there’s someone on the other side watching over us.
