You’re my roof against the rain,
where I’m safe from thunder-grumbles
echoing across the sky and sharp
lightning forks stabbing the earth.
Life’s not always a stormy downpour,
it can be a refreshing shower.
I’m glad that you are
my roof against the rain.
Kim M. Russell, 21st November 2025

Today Sanaa is delighted to host Open Link Night at the dVerse Poets Pub, and the Live edition on Saturday, when we can link up one poem of our choice or write to the optional mini prompt, for which we should consider the opening line from Edna St Vincent Millay’s poem ‘Love is not all’: “Love is not all: it is not meat nor drink nor slumber nor a roof against the rain.”
How wonderful to be named a roof against the rain… and I love the thought of that gentler rain you may have.

I love this line: “You’re my roof against the rain,”.
True. And speaking of rain…It’s going to rain here pretty soon for the next two days. L.A.
Having said that, this poem feels like protection against all odds.

Your quadrille is SOOOO sweet, each of us needs ‘that roof’ as shelter, to keep us safe, to love and respect us …. be there.
