Let me walk by a river without hurrying,
let the wind and water chill my fears.
Let me walk by a river without worrying
about pollution; let serenity still my tears.
Let me walk across meadows of wildflowers,
let the sun caress my hair and skin.
Let me walk across meadows in sun and showers,
embracing nature and storing it within.
Let me walk among trees in forest and wood,
let the ancient spirits follow me there.
Let me walk under trees where ancestors stood,
enjoying branches both leafy and bare.
Kim M. Russell, 26th May 2026

Mish is our host for Poetics this Tuesday at the dVerse Poets Pub, and she seems to be channelling her inner Marie Antionette with ‘Let Them’ Write Poetry.
She tells us about a book she read recently, The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins, who shares a method she believes is successful for achieving inner peace. ‘Let Them’ is a mindset tool for surrendering control of that which is beyond our power.
Mish would like us to blend the concept of ‘Let Them’ into a poem and has given us a few ideas as to how to do it.
I love this wish to find a calm that is very much lacking in what happens in the world today

Love the rhyme, love the sentiment, truly. It would make a nice lullaby, or at a brisk pace, a marching song.

Embracing it all. Reading through these poems, especially yours, brings to mind the Beatles’ “Let It Be.”

A beautifully descriptive poem that guides the reader gently – life is surely in the smaller details if only we all could find them – Jae

I’d love to do this again but almost everything in the nature around me is likely to kill me! Still, you’ve taken me back there if only for a moment. Nice write Kim 👏
