Between falling love and other parts of life,
things happen:
spring blossoms come
and go;
waves crash on beaches;
parts of mountains
c r u m b l e ;
skies change colour.
We grow up,
take on responsibility,
land with both feet
on the ground.
Kim M. Russell, 10th September 2026

It’s Thursday and time for Open Link Night at the dVerse Poets Pub, where Lisa is our host. She has shared a painting, ‘Between the Falling in Love Parts’, a mixed media painting by Phyllis Bramson, a Chicago-based artist, which Lisa tells us she saw up close at the Muskegon Museum of Art this spring and got lost in the imagery of it. It’s one of two optional mini prompts, and I rather enjoy an ekphrastic prompt.
I love the way everything else has to happen, and love changes but ends up with both feet on the ground.

There’s a tumbling down to earth that happens as we “grow up” and you capture it beautifully, Kim.

Kim, you keep it light throughout, enjoying it all, so when the lovers land, they land well. Lovely ekphrastic write ❤

My original comment got lost somehow, so trying again, Kim.
As with every good poem, each time you read it, it gets better and better, and I’ve read this at least twice now! I love the imagery of change that climaxes with feet on the ground.
