I’ve stood on streets between tall buildings
and looked at the moon
sometimes between their dark shadows
sometimes peeking from behind them,
and I’ve wondered
if the moon looks the same in Africa,
Australia, South America, Japan.
I know it looks the same
in the village
where I live,
but there
it sits in sky
with nothing taller
than a tree
to play peekaboo
with me.

This Tuesday’s Poetics at the dVerse Poets Pub is brought to us by Melissa and we are revisiting O’Keeffe.
Melissa says that she has come up with prompts in the past in which she shared some of Georgia O’Keeffe’s artwork and that she recently stumbled upon news of an exhibition at Detroit Institute of Arts, showcasing some of the artist’s works featuring architectural surroundings.
She reminds us that “Georgia O’Keeffe is well-known for her depictions of the natural world, flowers, landscapes. In this exhibition, her work celebrates the beauty and complexity of the architectural environment”, which led Melissa to investigate further into her work of this kind.
The first three paintings she has featured in today’s prompt have all be done on oil on canvas, which the fourth is watercolour paper, and in all four there is a richness in colour, which lends itself to an autumnal mood.
For today’s prompt, Melissa asks us to choose one of the paintings featured in her prompt and explore the world around us through the murky colours and sharp angles uncharacteristic of O’Keeffe.
I love the way the moon can be present even among the tall buildings… it really made me see it different when it plays peek-a-boo with the tree

Thanks Björn. I feel closer to the moon here in the countryside than I do in a city.
