An Early Display of Snowdrops

In a mild winter such as this,

Snowdrops are woken by the kiss

Of early vernal sunshine, bold

And eager, pushing shoots

Through frozen earth.

Verdant leaves unfold

And give birth

To a snowy drift

Of ballerinas,

Each in virgin shift,

Dancing in the breath

Of a chilly breeze.
