My response to Mindlovemisery’s Menagerie Photo Challenge #113

Sharp in the sunlight,
Melted snow
Of lingering winter
Revealed new growth.
In the drifting bark
Shifting sounds marked
The changing of the season:
The clamour of skeins of geese
And rooks emitting their phlegmy belches
As they built a shanty town
In the branches overhead.
Releasing wings as she set sail,
She blamed it on the stars,
That false constellation
Of cafes and bars
That hypnotises
When you’re away from home,
Living from a suitcase,
Carrying everything you own,
Escaping the rat race
For a few days grace.

There’s a longing in this poem that you made really relatable. I can feel the speaker’s desire to run away for a bit of peace. Your words are so, well, poetic!

The longed for escape is felt but is also haunting at the same time. Well written. 🙂
