I wrote this poem for the Poetry Society’s Stanza Poetry Competition and then remembered that I’m not a Stanza member – so I thought I’d share it with you on Imaginary Garden with Real Toads Tuesday Platform.
She sang her love into a bell-jar
And replaced the robust dumbing bung,
Observing the golden silence
Of the butterfly that she’d sung.
After many months of patience
She released it again,
Wrote down her love in words
On paper with a pen;
But someone else had used their silver voice
That soared and flew like birds,
So she put her love back in its jar
And stopped its mouth again.

Oh that is beautiful…and so heartbreaking. A butterfly trapped in a jar 😦

Sad, but still hopeful, too. Because she doesn’t throw the love away, she doesn’t kill it… she preserves it. Perhaps, love will be ready when she open the jar again. Perhaps it will fly. ♥
