shooting stars
lit up the night sky
with comets’
magic dust
I whispered a quiet wish
couldn’t say what for
I wished on the right star
my once in a night-time star
that brought you to me

My response to dVerse Poets Pub Poetics: Wishful Thinking
Mish is our host this evening and has invited us to leave our woes and realities of life at the door, and enter a world where all of your dreams and aspirations are believable and achievable, a place where wishes come true. She has asked us to free our minds from the grind, make a wish and write a poem about it. It may be a personal longing or a global vision, serious, humorous or whimsical. I got hung up on stars again – and a little bit of romance!
“my once in a night-time star” — love this, especially.

“I wished on the right star” … That’s it. You just have to find the right star. Then all your dreams come true.

Thanks Lillian! I’m planning to just write micro poetry in the next couple of months, while I’m doing an on-line poetry course, partly because of lack of time but mainly to achieve economy of words! But knowing me, I’ll fail miserably because I just can’t stop myself!

Which course? I’d be interested to know.

It’s the Poetry School (London) Deep Diving Poetry – the Language of Coastlines and the Sea, which looks at the different ways in which the sea can inspire, intrude and disrupt our writing practice. From creatures of the deep to submerged forests, from coast-cultures to the sea as a foreign planet, we will be exploring a variety of texts that will encourage us to create work that engages with the sea’s multiple facets. It’s online and I’m both excited and interested to see how it works.

The stars are connecting, and I think the (usual) night quiet helps us realize that. It’s as if they are strung on a thread that draws us to them and to the light. The wish is like a light switch, turning on our focus on something. Great poem Kim!
